Welcome to the Canadian Industrial Heritage Centre's website!

Although we do not yet have a physical centre, we are working very hard to gather and tell the "InduStory" about our industrial past.

Since we are located in Brantford, Ontario, once the third largest exporter of manufactured goods in Canada, following Montreal and Toronto, we have begun collecting information about Brantford area industries.

We hope one day to expand upon that to include the stories of our Canadian industrial past from coast to coast.

CIHC Moving Closer to its Goal of Establishing an Industrial Heritage Centre in Brantford!

“The Canadian Industrial Heritage Centre is working closely with Jeff Usher, vice-president of Terrasan Corporation, to build an Industrial Heritage Centre in the 1903 Cockshutt building in Brantford.  Terrasan Corporation is currently in negotiations with the City of Brantford to redevelop the 50 acre brownfield site, which was once home to several significant Brantford industries including Massey-Harris, Verity Plow Company, Sternson, and Cockshutt Plow Company.  Recognizing the rich industrial history of the site, Terrasan approached the CIHC with the idea of creating a museum district centered on the historical Cockshutt office building at 66 Mohawk St.  In Terrasan’s plans “the Cockshutt building will provide a visual and actual demonstration of the importance of the built heritage and particularly of the industrial heritage of Brantford…this district will become the new home for the Canadian Industrial Heritage Centre.”  The CIHC is excited by the prospect of at last having a permanent home to preserve, interpret and share Canadian industrial history with the public.  However, now more than ever, the CIHC needs your help and support.  We are looking for new members, donations, and potential artifacts and archives to add to our collection.  For more information on how you can help please contact us by email: info@canadianindustrialheritage.org or phone 519-732-1000.  We appreciate your interest and support.”
